Edouard Cazaux (1889 - 1974), c. 1930.

Edouard Cazaux (1889 - 1974) came from a family of potters near Dax, Département Landes. As early as 1903, he began working in a clay factory producing building materials. Later he studied in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the École de Sèvres. After several years of work creating large wooden models for the ceramic projects of Lachenal and Jean Mayodon, he began to concentrate on his own ceramic ideas from the mid-1920s onwards. His mostly sculptural vessels are influenced by the Classical age, as well as by African art and Cubism.
