The photograph shows Piccadilly Circus in London, which on the evening of 2 April 1949, after more than a decade, was once again shining in the light of advertisements. Due to the heavy bombing by the German Luftwaffe and the resulting night-time blackout measures, illuminated signs had been banned since the beginning of the war.
