Alongside views of landscapes, the still life is surely the most important genre in Charles Camoin's late work. In the pictures of flowers and fruits developed entirely out of the paint in the 1950s, he celebrates genuine colouristic fireworks. Before a background that is usually kept dark, Camoin - as in the case of the work offered here - makes the white of the porcelain and the bold tones of the flowers and fruit flash with an almost supernatural intensity, creating symbolic images of summery abundance.
