A large wooden figure of Kobo Daishi. Heian- or Kamakura-period and later

Seated in meditation, holding a vajra in his right hand and prayer beads hanging from the left, the kesa held together by a cord at the left shoulder. Inside the belly behind a removeable piece of wood a number of consecratory scrolls printed in red and black on paper with texts, some of the scrolls unopend. A few more scrolls in wooden box. The head later replaced.
