A woven cast iron necklace with cameos

Finely spun black patinated cast iron wire, cast iron and gold. With three oval cameos in gold-backed surrounds connected by finely woven cast iron bands. The gold clasp with a small oval cameo. L 49 cm.

Cf. Schmidt, Der preußische Eisenguss, Berlin 1981, illus. 195. Eva Schmidt describes this weaving technique as follows: " (sie) wurden nicht gegossen, sondern aus gezogenen und gesponnenen Eisendrähtchen geflochten. Sie wurden nur in Berlin hergestellt und waren unter dem Spezialbegriff fer de Berlin weltberühmt." (ibd. p. 192). Cf. also cat.
