A pair of Gothic Revival stained glass windows

Clear and coloured stained glass windows decorated with black and yellow stain. Depicting Gothic church facades with open doors revealing views of the interiors with figures and altars within. The window with the angel inscribed “PAY” and the central female saint with the book signed beside the dome: “Gefertigt im März 1905 im letzten Monat des Bestehens d. Königl. Inst. für Glasmalerei Berlin” and inscribed in the lower section “Wo Friede”. The window with the prophet and scroll inscribed “MEMENTO D.K.I.F.G. 1905” and “Da Liebe” below the bishop saint. One cracked pane beside the angel. Dimensions with the narrow wooden surrounds H 84, W 48.5 and 49 cm.

The Lehranstalt für Glasmalerei (School of Glass Painting) was founded in 1841 on the initiative of King Frederick William IV. After completing commissions for St Mary's Church in Gdansk and for Cologne Cathedral, among others, the institute was nationalised in 1887 and dissolved in 1905.
