A rare Durlach Renaissance silver goblet

Hexagonal base decorated with repoussé scrolls and fruit supporting a short baluster form shaft with scrolls. The surface of the hexagonal cup with corresponding decor and alternating cherub's heads and fruit garlands. H 19 cm, weight 261 g.
Marks of Master NF, circa 1600.

A communion jug by the court goldsmith Jakob Burckhardt, dated 1656, has been preserved in the Protestant church of Durlach. However, during the great fire in Durlach on 16th August 1689, all church records and other existing documents were destroyed, so that only a few maker's marks have been deciphered so far.
