A Kalundborg silver mounted porcelein yongzheng tankard

Cylindrical Chine-de-command tankard decorated in famille rose polychromy with cartouches on brown ground. The domed lid with engraved Regencé decor and a spherical thumbrest and inset at the top with a medallion commemorating the victory of Peter Wessel Tordenskiold at the battle of Marstrand in 1719. The inside of the lid with a hand-written inventory label inscribed "No. 47 Ravnstrup". H 18.5 cm.

Provenance

This tankard was once in the possession of Admiral Caspar von Wessel (1693 - 1768), a brother of Peter Wessel Tordenskiold who was raised to nobility by Friedrich IV in 1720. He also owned Ravnstrup mansion north of Naestved.
