A Berlin KGM porcelain plaque with a Prussian hussar

Dated lower right "- 26 - 6 - 49. -", impressed eagle mark and 7P. H 20.2, W 17.7 cm.
Lead-free "Gesundheitsgeschirr" (health porcelain), painted 1849.

The officer depicted here could be Wilhelm Friedrich Ludwig of Prussia (1797 - 1888), later King and from 1871 Emperor Wilhelm I. The horseman wears the uniform of the Leib-Garde-Husaren-Regiment of Friedrich Wilhelm IV, a regiment that was founded in 1815 and existed until the time of the Republic.

Lead-free glaze was first produced in France in the late 18th century under the name "Hygiocerames". In 1818, KPM founded a sister firm, "KGM", specialised in the production of this ware based on the banks of the Spree to the west of the Tiergarten.
