A late Gothic two-handled mortar dated 1502

Golden brown cast bronze with golden brown patina. Tapering mortar with a stepped base and flaring rim. Decorated with several bands of moulding and inscribed beneath the rim in Gothic minuscule: "ihesus maria iohannes m ccccc ii". With two faceted handles. The base slightly concave due to usage and with an x-shaped hairline crack to the underside. With minor casting flaws to the rim and outer surface. H 15.5, D 16.5 cm, weight c. 4.2 kg.
