A rare Münster Renaissance mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with brown patina. Tapering mortar on a thick, stepped base. Decorated with a large vacant shield flanked by columns. With a broad banderole beneath the slightly flaring rim bearing the inscription: "GODT HEBBE DANCK VOR SINE GNADE 88". Inscribed with an old inventory no. "186" to the inner rim. H 14.2, D 13 cm, including a corresponding pestle, weight with pestle c. 4.2 kg.
Presumably 1588.
