Iberisch-Kolonial 18th century

A carved wood figure of Saint Francis (?), Iberian-Colonial, 18th century

Carved in the round. With glass eyes. Original polychromy. A depiction of a youthful saint with a tonsure and monk's robe with a cross hanging from his belt, shown kneeling and facing slightly towards the left. The figure can presumably be identified as Saint Francis. According to the family of the present owner, the figure originates from Quito in Ecuador.
The separately attached hands lost. Minor wear throughout. Height 29 cm.
