A small Bhutanese silver figure of Ngawang Namgyal. 18th/19th century

Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel seated on a lotus pedestal with the typical Bhutanese lobed petals extending halfway around the base, his right hand points to the ground, his left hand resting in his lap holding a book. He is dressed as a monk and wears the Drugpa Kagyü headdress and has the long characteristic distinct beard. Incised inscription in Chöke (classical Tibetan) on the reverse. Base sealed with a copper plate.

Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (1594-1651) was the founder of the Bhutanese state, and an important grand lama of the Drugpa Kagyu school in Bhutan, which he established as one of the most important schools of Tibetan Buddhism. In his person, he combined both spiritual and secular rule and shaped the structures of Bhutan that are still in use today during the 35 years of his rule, even though at his request, after his death, the reign was divided into a spiritual and a secular ruler.

十八/十九世纪 不丹 银制仲阿旺朗傑坐像

夏仲.阿旺朗傑 (1594-1651) 是不丹的創始人,也是不丹竺巴噶舉派的重要大喇嘛。此派系由他創建,成為藏傳佛教最重要的派別之一。他將精神統治和世俗統治結合起來,並締造了他統治35 年甚至至今仍在使用的不丹社會結構。應他的要求,在他死后,統治層被分為了精神統治者與世俗統治者兩個部分。
