Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 15.3 x 22.7 cm (17.9 x 24 cm). Detailed notes on the subject by the photographer in ballpoint pen, photopgrapher's stamp as well as numbered in unknown hands in pencil and ballpoint pen on the verso. - Traces of usage. Matted.

In 1959/1960, Ed von der Elsken and Gerda van der Veen, his second wife, undertook a 14-month journey from West Africa to Southeast Asia on behalf of the Dutch television Company to work on a reportage. Six years later, the photographer and filmmaker published his legendary photo book "Sweet life", which, through its radical juxtapositions, draws a visually striking summary from the impressions of the journey.
