Born in Treuenbrietzen in Brandenburg, Hermann Schnee studied at the Düsseldorf Academy under Oswald Achenbach and Hans Frederik Gude. After 1867 Schnee lived and worked in Berlin, opened a ladies' studio and took part in the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions. In 1893 he was appointed royal professor by Kaiser Wilhelm II. There are works by Hermann Schnee in the Chemnitz Municipal Art Collections and in the Grunewald Hunting Lodge.
