A carved limewood figure of a standing female saint, Upper Rhine Region, circa 1460/70

Limewood, carved in the round. With remnants of former polychromy. The skin overpainted. On the original moulded plinth. She stands facing towards the right, gripping the fabric of her red gown with her right hand; the hand of the raised left hand missing. According to Hubert Wilm, this figure belongs to a group of depictions of saints and the Virgin carved in the Upper Rhineland region whose drapery motifs are closely linked to the engravings of the Master E.S.
The missing crown was replaced after 1990. With several minor cracks, insect damage and slight wear. Height 36.5 cm (with plinth).
