Heinrich Mücke's finely executed drawing was made while he was still a student at the Düsseldorf Academy. Under the guidance of Peter Cornelius and Wilhelm von Schadow, he was particularly interested in fresco painting with a focus on religious history painting. Apparently, in 1828 he visited the famous collection of medieval paintings of the Cologne merchant Liversberg, where he discovered this illustration of a Jewish woman.
