1925-1930

Anta Rupflin, born Antoinette Treu, studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts as of 1912. In the 1920s she continued her training, among other places, in Augsburg with Karl Rupflin, whom she married in 1922. In 1925 Anta Rupflin studied with Mela Muter in Paris and the two artists became friends; in the following years she visited Muter repeatedly in Paris and in Colliure in southern France, where they worked together. Rupflin's life was characterised by travel; with her husband she travelled to Croatia, Spain, Tunisia and above all Italy, which remained a frequent destination until the 1970s.
In her portraits and still lifes from the 1920s and 1930s, her close ties and artistic affinity with Mela Muter become clear. An unconventional perspective and the combination of earthy tones and cool, luminous blue are often found in her work during this period and account for the special charm of the present still life.
