A round gold lacquer incense box (kôgô). 19th century

Of flat shape displaying a travelling box (oi) of a yamabushi and rocks entwined by ivy under a maple tree in hiramakie on gyôbu nashiji, in allusion to the "Ise monogatari" chapter "Tsuta no hosomichi". The inside with autumn grasses on kinji.
Height 20.5 cm; diameter 6.3 cm
