A Rostock museum-quality diamond pattern silver gilt tankard

Rounded base with flame ornament supporting a cylindrical vessel decorated with repoussé diamond motifs in eleven rows. The domed lid with corresponding decor and a baluster-shaped finial. The cast silver handle formed as a finely chased faun, the thumbrest made up of two scrolls. Engraved with the weight "47.LOT.1 q" below the base. H 20.6 cm, weight 617 g.
Marks of Peter Quistorp, around 1620 - 1630.

The rectory of St. Mary's Church in Rostock houses a hexagonal, heavily gilded host box by Peter Quistorp, together with a small silver chalice. Further works by the master and his son Joachim are kept in the Art History Museum in Rostock.
