A pair of Victorian silver gilt goblets

Round, slightly domed bases supporting baluster-form shafts with lion mascaron reliefs. The wide cups engraved with the coat-of-arms of Edmund Waterton; each engraved on the reverse "ye Lorde of Walton hys cuppe" and "ye Lady of Walton her cuppe". H 16.5 cm, total weight 439 g.

Edmund Waterton (1830 - 1887) inherited Walton Hall near Wakefield in Yorkshire after the death of his father in 1865. Together with his wife Josephine Ennis, he amassed an internationally renowned art collection and library. His important collection of early rings is now in the possession of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
