A Höchst porcelain tête à tête with motifs by Oettner

Comprising a coffee pot, teapot and sugar box with lids, tea caddy with replaced lid, bowl and two cups and saucers painted with scenes of children. Iron red wheel mark, incised NI, IH and RI. A stapled restoration to the bowl. H coffee pot 21.8 cm.

Andreas Philipp Oettner (around 1735 - 92) is one of the few porcelain painters whose style and subjects are so unique that they are instantly recognisable. He specialised, among other things, in “Watteau scenes” in which he replaced the characters with child-like figures with characteristic facial expressions. This service features amusing and bizarre depictions in a traditional park landscape, above the typical purple rocailles of the Höchst manufactory. The narrow lambrequin border around the edges also adds to the character of the ensemble. Before he came to Höchst, Oettner worked in the Ludwigsburg, Frankenthal and Fürstenberg manufactories. He died in Vienna in 1792.
