A Höchst porcelain tureen, the only known example of this model

Rocaille tureen on four scroll supports with original lid and finial formed as a pumpkin flower. Decorated with strawflowers. Blue wheel mark. Restored firing cracks. H 28.5, W c. 34 cm.
Electoral Mainz Manufactory Höchst, 1760s.

Horst Reber was apparently unaware of the existence of this tureen when he stated in 1986 that the model derived from Strasbourg was only produced in faience. Due to the difficulties that the manufactory encountered in firing these large pieces in porcelain, one can assume that this is the only example to have survived.
