A comital letter coffer

Engraved tortoiseshell, ebony, walnut inlaid with pewter, wrought iron lock and hinges, later printed paper lining. Oblong box with hinged lid on a moulded base and compressed bun supports. The lid with an unidentified coat-of-arms held aloft by two putti and a further armorial cartouche to the lock. Engraved with merchant and battle scenes. H 12, W 23, D 15 cm.
