A Maasland carved wood figure of St Anthony, first quarter 16th century

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. With minimal remains of former polychromy. Designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. Depicting the saint standing in contrapposto in a monk's habit, holding a book and staff in his hands. He can be further identified by his attributes the bell, prayer beads and pig, and the flames at his feet refer to his help in case of fire.
The back of the plinth and the hood each with a wedge shaped crack and later stabilising elements/additions. With minor wear. Height 92 cm.
