A Swabian carved wood figure of a saint, around 1620/1630

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With extensive remains of older polychromy, partially overpainted. Zoege von Manteuffel ascribes this figure of an unidentified standing saint to the circle of the Zürn family of carvers from Upper Swabia, seeing in it the strongest parallels to the work of David Zürn.
The right hand lacking. Losses to the left hand and foot, repairs to the right foot. Wear throughout. Height 115 cm.

Provenance

Acquired in 1967 from the art dealer H. Rutishauser, Kreuzlingen. - Since then in an Austrian private collection.
