Oil on panel. 47.5 x 35.5 cm.

This painting depicting the Virgin mourning and praying can be dated to circa 1600. It is closely related to the paintings by the Netherlandish artist Albert Bouts and his workshop during the first third of the 16th century. The counterpart depicted Christ with the Crown of Thorns.
