Utagawa artists

Orihon album containing 32 surimono and chūban

30 x 21 cm. Among the artists are Utagawa Kunisada (17 surimono), Utagawa Toyohiro (5 surimono, 3 chūban from Edo hakkei), Utagawa Kuniyoshi (3 surinomo), originals mixed with later copies. Kunisada: Ichikawa Danjūrō VII as Soga Gorō; Two oxen under a willow tree; Ichikawa Danjūrō next to Fudō Myōō’s portrait. Utagawa Kuniyoshi: Rinchū from Fūzoku onna Suikoden hyakuhachiban no uchi; Ichikawa Danjūrō VII as Benkei. Utagawa Toyokuni: Ichikawa Danjūrō in Shibaraku. Each print annotated by Kurt Meissner. Album in wrapper. Mostly 1820s. Very good impressions, colours mostly good to somewhat faded, traces of usage, all surimono glued to the pages of the album
