Murnau am Staffelsee, Gastl family of painters, late 18th C.

Glass panel painted on reverse in opaque and transparent pigments against black ground. With glass strips applied to the reverse, inscribed in black behind the glass "Franciscus II. Römischer Kaiser" and "Maria Teresia Römische Kaiserin". Retouches, especially to the Emperor Franz II. Carved softwood frame gilded over red bole (with repairs), H ca. 38, W ca. 20 cm.

This lot includes an anonymous coloured engraving, inscribed "Franciscus II. Rom. Imperator Rex Hungariae et Bohemiae Archidux Austriae &c.&c.", showing the figure of the emperor laterally reversed and in half-length.
