The talented young sculptor Adolph Amberg (1874 - 1913) began designing a large figural centrepiece for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in around 1904. It was to be presented at the wedding of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia to Cecilie of Mecklenburg on 6th June 1905. However, the set did not appeal to the Emperor's taste and was therefore rejected. Amberg resumed the project in 1908 after a three-year break and finished the last pieces in 1910. Today, the figures from the wedding procession are considered among KPM's finest designs from the pre-WWI period.
