A pair of ormolu candelabra

Three-flame candelabra formed as winged representations of Victory in classical attire on angular plinths, holding flaming urns in their hands, from which issue forked foliate branches with vase-shaped nozzles, additional nozzles on small plinths atop the heads. H ca. 57, W ca. 30 cm.
Around 1800, in the style of Friedrich Bergenfeldt, St Petersburg.

The German-born bronze caster Friedrich Bergenfeldt (1760 - 1822) worked in St Petersburg in the 1790s and, with a stopover in Paris, for the entire first decade of the 19th century. His collaboration with the ebenist Heinrich Gambs, who was trained by Roentgen and for whom he supplied ornate bronze fittings, is documented. Bergenfeldt specialised in monumental vases and candelabras, which he also supplied to the Russian court.
