A carved fruitwood relief of the Lamentation of Christ, circle of Christoph Daniel Schenck

Fruitwood, carved. This high relief depicts the slightly larger body of Christ in the centre of the composition, supported by Joseph of Arimathea. His mother Mary is shown crying to the right of Her dead son, accompanied by Nicodemus and Christ's favourite disciple John. On the left side, we see further mourning figures as well as one beam of the Cross and the ladder used to remove Christ's body.
With vertical hairline cracks. Backed with a thin wooden board to provide stability. Minor wear throughout. Height 28 cm, width 26.5 cm.
