‘Alfred Gunzenhauser. Gallerist, collector, patron’ by Stephan Dahme
Book presentation on 22 February at 6 pm at Lempertz in Cologne
Alfred Gunzenhauser was a successful gallerist, with his premises at the most prominent address on Munich’s Maximilianstrasse a cornerstone of the German art scene. His activity as a collector, however, was long concealed under a veil of privacy. Alfred Gunzenhauser the patron made a dazzling entrance into the public sphere not least with the opening of the Gunzenhauser Museum in Chemnitz in 2007.
With numerous written sources and statements from contemporaries, Dr Stephan Dahme has described his life as a part of German art history; his book ‘Alfred Gunzenhauser. Galerist, Sammler, Stifter’ has been published by Edition Fichter. Kunsthaus Lempertz invites you to the book presentation on 22nd February in its headquarters on Cologne’s Neumarkt. Following a welcome note by Professor Henrik Hanstein, the Director of Lempertz KG, Dr Gisela Vetter-Liebenow, Deputy Chairwoman of the Alfred Gunzenhauser Foundation, will address the audience. Afterwards, the art historian Professor Dr Herwig Guratzsch will speak with the author Dr Stephan Dahme.
With this book presentation, Lempertz continues its long tradition as a venue for cultural events aside from its auctions.
