Auction 1238 – 150 Years of Modern Glass – A German Private Collection

Lempertz to auction a private collection of select pieces of European glass art in a special catalogue

The prominent collector couple, who wish to remain anonymous, acquired a collection of 130 lots of modern glass over a period of almost five decades. The earliest objects are by the highly talented Emile Gallé from Nancy, but there is also Favrile glass by Louis Comfort Tiffany and a number of later versions of designs by René Lalique’s.

The clear focus of the collection is on post-1970 Venetian glass, in particular creations of the Venini manufactory. Even at its founding in 1921, glassblowers were committed to the highest standards of quality. With the engagement of contemporary artists, the manufactory succeeded in making the leap into the international avant-garde.

This collection also features objects by Alessandro Mendini, Carlo Scarpa, Gianni Versace, Gae Aulenti, Monica Guggisberg and Philip Baldwin. The collector couple has been acquiring the pieces direct from the manufactory since the 1970s.
