Major work by Max Pechstein sells for around 3.2 million euro

Auction 1233 Evening Sale on 1 December 2023

A key work of German Expressionism by Hermann Max Pechstein, ‘Self Portrait, Reclining’, achieved a result of 3,182,840 euro in the Evening Sale on Friday in Cologne. All the bidders were from Germany and Switzerland, and the decision fell at the end between one telephone bidder against one room bidder. ‘Self Portrait, Reclining’ now moves to a German private collection.

Hermann Max Pechstein’s most important picture, ‘Self Portrait, Reclining’ has been sold. This work was auctioned under an agreement between the consignor and the heirs of Dr Walter Blanck, which was reached following successful mediation by Lempertz KG.
