Carl Moll - biography

In 1880 the Austrian Carl Moll began his studies at Vienna’s Academy of Fine Arts and then subsequently became a student of Emil Jakob Schindler, Alma Mahler-Werfel’s father. Moll later married Schindler’s widow and, in 1930, he wrote a monograph on his former teacher. In 1897 he was among the founders of the Vienna Secession and would ultimately serve as its president for a short time. Here he fulfilled the role of the essential organiser of exhibitions of foreign artists, e.g., the Impressionist show of 1903, and he assisted with the journal “Ver Sacrum”.
