This landscape painting was attributed to Jacob van Ruisdael by Max Friedländer, in fact it is a work by Guillam Dubois, a Haarlem painter who was influenced by Jacob van Ruisdael. A similar hilly wooded landscape is in the collection of the Herzog Anton-Ulrich Museum in Brunswick (cf. Walther Bernt: Die Niederländischen Maler und Zeichner des 17. Jahrhunderts. vol. 1., Munich 1979, p. 54, ill. no. 361).
