Messing

A gothic brass seal of the town of Lauterbach (Hesse), probably Hessian, late 13th or 14th century, cast and cut, with the circumscription in gothic majuscule: "OPIDI LVTTIRNBACH".
A handle to the reverse. With the depiction of the knight Saint Simplitius, one of the patron saints of the town of Fulda. Subordinate to the Benedictine abby of Fulda, Lauterbach received the town privilege from Abbot Bertho in 1266. Diameter 4,8 cm.
