A MID-15TH CENTURY SOUTH GERMAN CARVED WOOD FIGURE OF SAINT PANTALEON

(Prov. Ullmann - Kauffmann - Bührle 1954)

A mid-15th century South German carved wood figure of Saint Pantaleon, the reverse partly flattened. Old polychrome, partly retouched. Standing figure of the Saint in a knee-length belted habit and a mantle whose drapery falls in cascades. Characterising the depiction of the Saint, the lifted arms are attached on the head with a nail.
The plinth and the toe-cap added. Fine vertical crack on the front. With minor wear. Height 56 cm.
