Lucas Cranach the Elder, follower of
THE MOCKING OF CHRIST
Oil on panel (parquetted). 41 x 27 cm.
The theme of the Mocking of Christ has only once been painted by Lucas Cranch the Elder in 1537. A small replica of this painting can be found in the collection in Weimar, whereby its composition is not similar to this work. According to the style the painting must have been painted by an artist active around 1540/1550 and influenced by Cranach.
We thank Ludwig Meyer, Munich, for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
