WOODED LANDSCAPE WITH BRIDGE

Gouache. 19.5 x 24.5 cm.
TROOST.

In 1712 Willem Troost went to Düsseldorf to work as court painter to the Elector. After the death of Johann Wilhelm in 1716 Troost began to work largely as a portraitist in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Essen and Duisburg. In 1735 he returned to Holland and started to create small landscapes in gouache, for which he is best known today. Such works can be found, for example, in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin, and in Windsor Castle (Thieme/Becker).
