Carl Wuttke

MORNING AT THE LAKE OF KARNAK

Oil on canvas. 105 x 162 cm.
C. Wuttke Luksor - Karnak 1910.

No other German artist of his time was as well travelled as Carl Wuttke. His first destination was Italy where he set out on foot to in 1874. In 1884 he went to Spain, in 1894 Norway, followed by Algeria, Egypt, the Sudan and the United States of America. In 1897/99 he embarked on a world tour that took him to Japan and China. From there he provided images for Kaiser Wilhelm II, which were intended for the Silver Room of the Berlin palace. With his spontaneous and fluid style, Carl Wuttke was one of the most important pre-impressionist Orientalists from Germany. Well-preserved condition.
