AN EARLY 13TH CENTURY LIMOGES CAST COPPER CRUCIFIX

Copper, losses to the enamel, Limoges early 13th C.
The enamel partially lost, with wear. Mounted to a wooden plaque covered with velvet. Height 18.5 cm, width 11.7 cm.

An early 13th century Limoges cast copper crucifix. Cast and engraved, with remains of gilding, and enamel. A separately worked Corpus crucified with four nails, the head held aloft and crowned, the perizonium with enamel inlays. Mounted to a corresponding cross decorated with vines and engravings.
