A figure of the Virgin and Child, Northern France, late 14th century

Carved ivory, minor traces of former polychromy. The hinges on the right side of the piece indicate that it previously belonged to a diptych. The relief depicts the Virgin and Child accompanied by angels carrying lamps, surrounded by a Gothic arch with crockets.
With fine vertical cracks, slight yellowing. Set into a wooden, velvet covered frame. 8.9 x 5.3 cm.
