Netherlands circa 1560/1570

A Netherlandish figure of King David with a harp, circa 1560/1570

Carved wood, the reverse and the left side of the lectern flattened. Presumably with original polychromy. King David is shown seated to the right and dressed in royal attire, holding a harp in his hands. He is turned towards a music stand on the left, the moulded socle of which is decorated with grotesque demi-figures and a scrollwork cartouche bearing a foliate mask.
Broken between the lectern and the figure and subsequently mounted together to a newer plinth. With minor wear. Height 25.5 cm (without plinth).

Provenance

Private collection, Austria.
