A Flemish high-relief of the Crucifixion, second half 17th century

Carved ivory, minor remains of former polychromy. A highly sculptural relief of Christ on an elevated cross flanked by two henchmen. The Virgin and Saint John are depicted beneath the cross, as well as Mary Magdalene with the jar of ointment above the skull and bones. Soldiers and a further mourning woman are shown in low relief in the mid ground.
Some small cracks to the edges, otherwise perfect. Mounted to a velvet covered wooden panel. 22.5 x 11.5 x 2 cm.
