A relief bust of Friedrich Schiller by Arnold Hermann Lossow

Marble. Signed and dated to the underside of the chest "A. LOSSOW. fec. 1853." An idealised portrait of the poet in profile turned to the right. Arnold Hermann Lossow stayed in Rome for three years following his apprenticeship in Bremen and Munich and be became assistant to Ludwig Schwanthaler upon his return to Munich in 1834. In Schwanthaler's studio he produced sculptures for the Munich Glypthothek and the Walhalla memorial in Regensburg.
With minor wear. 39 x 32 x 8.5 cm.
