A large ivory netsuke of a monkey. 17th/18th century.

With a small double gourd, and holding on to a namazu by its fin. Pupils of black horn.
Width 6 cm

A very popular theme at the time, this example is unusually large with irregularity-shaped patterns on the fish's body and a good golden patina to the rounded reverse.
