A highly unusual ivory netsuke of a saru ningyo. 18th century.

A saru ningyo, a doll made of rolled-up cloth, which is tied to resemble a monkey. The arms and legs are bound together with a cord, the cloth shows a pattern of chrysanthemums and leafy scrolls, a conical hat sits on the small round “head” with engraved facial features.
