A 14k red gold, silver and diamond royal Bavarian ring.

With crowned initial "L" on a royal blue enamel ground surrounded by 16 rose diamonds and flanked by two winged Herms. Stamped fineness 585. H top of ring 1.8 cm. Weight 11.7 g.
Germany, probably last quarter 19th C.

Rings like this one were presented by King Ludwig II of Bavaria (Munich 1845 - Starnberg 1886) in honour of outstanding service. However, they also became popular as souvenirs following the death of the well-loved monarch.
